6. Explain what a design pattern is and how it benefits software development practices in general.
Exercises
1. Assume you have the following use case from which you are expected to develop some system:
Open an investment account.
An investor requests the opening of an investment account. The investment specialist prompts the system to obtain the standard electronic application setup template from the database. The investment specialist asks the investor a series of relevant questions. On completion of the questions and after requesting and receiving identification from the investor, the investment specialist provides the necessary information to the system. Finally, the system processes the information.
Based on this use case, one of your use-case specialists gives you, the architect, the following qualified list of candidate classes:
Investor
Investment account
Investment specialist
System
Standard electronic application setup template
a. How would you model these classes and their associations? Using the verbs in the use case as clues, how would you model any methods?
b. If a designer on your team discovers that an important collaborating class is missing, how would you ensure that this new discovery is used consistently throughout all models on your project?
c. List some methods you would use to manage the overall design process. You might include a mixture of the methodologies of the Three Amigos.
